Children’s Church is offered during the 11:00 service for all children ages 3 years through Kindergarten. Following the Children's Moment during the worship service, the children are lead to a classroom in the children's hallway across the foyer from the sanctuary, where they learn about Jesus through stories, crafts and play. This allows children to worship as children, while parents worship undistracted in the sanctuary. The children remain supervised in the room until their parents come to pick them up after the worship service.
Please note that Children's Church is only during the 11:00 am worship service, but children are always welcome to remain in the sanctuary with their parents at any service. Jesus said "Allow the little ones to come to me, and do not forbid or restrain or hinder them, for they are a part of the kingdom of heaven." Matthew 19:14 (NASB). So relax! God put the wiggle in children; do not feel you have to suppress it in God's house. We suggest:
- Use a gentle touch: an arm around your child's shoulder, your hand in his or hers to give reassurance and appropriate attention.
- Explain quietly the parts of the service.
- Sing hymns, pray and voice the responses. Children learn good behavior in church by copying yours.
- Encourage them to come up for the Children's Moment and ask them to participate in the message.
Remember that the way we welcome children in church directly affects the way they respond to church, God, and Christ. Let them know that they are at home here at Flower Mound United Methodist Church.
